Disaster Heroes is proud to partner with the World Trade Center Memorial Oak Project and FDNY's Friends of Firefighters to help find permanent homes for 40+ memorial oak saplings the week of September 11, 2019.
The World Trade Center Oak Project raised acorns collected from the oak trees surrounding the September 11 Memorial in New York City in 2017. The 43 oak saplings were raised in Michigan and are being donated and delivered to survivors, survivor families, first response and various other organizations as 'living memorials' throughout NYC and the East Coast.
To find out more about this very special project, check out the WTC Oak Project website here: http://wtc-oaks.org/
The Friends of Firefighters website can be found here: https://friendsoffirefighters.org/. Friends of Firefighters is an organization dedicated to providing independent, confidential, and free counseling and wellness services to active and retired FDNY firefighters and their families.
Join us for a small memorial tree planting ceremony on September 13, 2019 from 12-2pm at the Friends of Firefighters Headquarters, 199 Van Brunt Street, Brooklyn, NY. A reception of light refreshments will follow the ceremony.
Parties interested in receiving a Memorial Oak tree can contact The World Trade Center Oak Project through their website listed above. Donations to assist in transporting the trees to the East Coast can be made through the project's GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-send-42-911- memorial-oak-trees-to-nyc). Any additional funds raised will be donated to Friends of Firefighters.
